I still haven't fully nailed down what motor I am going with, but I am leaning very heavily towards the Scorpion HKIII-4025 890KV. It is in my price range and looks to suit my needs. I am still open to suggestions for other motors in that $250 price range though.

No real suggestions on the motor. I am going 12s and using the scorpion 4025-630. Scorpions are well regarded motors

They seem to be having a lot of issues with out of balance cases and bearing issues as of late. Easily fixed though. Put some ceramic bearings in for a start. I replaced mine ( 3 ) for 17 euro to the door.

Well that is troubling to hear - how does the ceramics take care of of an out of balance case?

Well just made one more step towards getting this bird in the air and ordered my Ikon FBL unit, next step will be batteries and motor in a couple of weeks. I was going to order my batteries first, but then realized that my current motor is only rated for 6s and without a FBL unit the heli would remain grounded if something came up financially. This way if for some reason the bottom falls out of my wallet the helicopter can still make it into the air with my current motor and battery combination once the snow goes away. For some reason crmodels has a lot less snow than we do I am only about 100 miles further north and 100 miles east of him and we still have 6" of snow on the ground

Well that is troubling to hear - how does the ceramics take care of of an out of balance case? I have no idea. How does replacing bearings sort an out of balance case? ! ! But what I ment was the bearings are cheap and easy to replace, and the case is easy to balance.

Well my Ikon unit arrived today, but I have been busy staining a french door and sanding the stairway that will get stained tomorrow. I figure I will get to work on getting the BW head setup and as close to 0° ant mid stick as I can by eye today in between stain coats. then install the Ikon tomorrow evening. I till need to get a digital pitch gauge before I can actually set up the FBL unit, so anything I do till then is just playing around and seeing whats what with the FBL. Still waiting on that prop for the scratch build plane

Well it only took 2 days, but I finally figured out how to get Aux2 assigned to the flap switch . I was just having a hard time comprehending what I found in my searches. I think I will like this Ikon unit, but boy could it use a manual

I got the Ikon setup while waiting between coats of stain ;D I still need to do a bit of fine tuning, wire routing, and get the head setup, but I am close to trying to fly this thing again. As it is right now, once I setup the head and curves, it is ready to fly. I kept the settings on the Ikon at beginner, sport, and sport without self leveling, no 3D settings. I figure that I can play around with it on beginner with SL for a bit, then bump up to sport with SL once I get use to that. Finally take it to bank 3, sport without SL, so I can flick a switch and hit one of two bailout settings and hopefully save myself from crashing if needed. The new mortgage with a much lower rate came through today, so that should free up some cash to finish up the 8s conversion before the snow melts and the fields dry up. Oh I need to get a couple more DSMX satellites so I have 2 on the heli and one for the AR8000 receiver that is now sitting here unused. There could be another flying machine build in the future ;D

Sgmason, I don't have any idea what servos you're looking for, but there are some great Canadian websites to order from(I don't mean to take anything away from RCA, they are an excellent company) but if you order from this side of the border there are no customs (BS) delays, brokerage fees (BS) or added taxes (BS) when you recieve your order. My Chaos kit sat in Vancouver customs for 21 days before resuming its trip to me here in Ontario. It's totally your call & it's your money but I personally HATE waiting for orders. That's a lot of "BS" lol...

At first I thought you were saying my last post was BS then I realized that the quote wasn't me and almost a year old I think the problem Drev had was he had his heli shipped UPS. They rake us Canadians over the coals on orders coming through Customs with inflated brokerage fees That is one of the main reason I will not deal with UPS ever again. When i was still playing with my little 4ch heli I ordered some replacement parts from south of the 49th. The total order cost was around $30 with UPS shipping, the brokerage fees from UPS was that much again if I recall and they were not disclosed till the delivery man was at the door looking for money. The UPS delivery guy we have serving this area is the other reason I wont deal with UPS, he is unpleasant and rude to deal with If a US seller wont ship USPS I wont order from them. With USPS/Canada Post the most you ever have to pay extra is GST/HST and maybe a $5 brokerage fee. To date I have only been charged the $5 three times and each time it has been a large heavy item. My belt grinder frame was 60 pounds and the wheels for the grinder came in around the same weight. I didn't mind paying $5 extra for to the door postal delivery of 120 pounds of steel and rubber Well time to get my coffee into me and get back to work on that stairway. Today it is 4 or more coats of varathane depending on how fast it cures and looks as the coats go on.

Well, yesterday I got good news and bad news at the same time. The good news is that I finally got the surgery date for my elbow, the bad news is that the surgery is 12 days from today. I ordered up the batteries for the 600 yesterday morning and planned on ordering the new motor in two weeks time. Thing is that I wont be able to use my left arm for about a month after the surgery, and very sparingly after that. I don't know how it will affect flying this summer, but all my parts will be in hand right around my surgery date, meaning everything will just be sitting there teasing me for a month till I can install them and do the final setup Even worse is the weather forecast leading up to my surgery date, rain and wind almost everyday till after the surgery, so I wont even be able to get much flying in on the Sensei either Oh well I will have to look on the bright side, I should be fully healed by fall when I go back to school for retraining, if WCB listens to the opinions of the 3 specialist I have seen that say I can not return to any sort of manual labor or I will end up with the exact same problem.

Finally got around to ordering the two 4s batteries for the 8s conversion lastnight I was making a HK order and threw a pair of 3000mah 20c Zippys on the order. I still need to get my motor to have everything to do a test flight, but I am getting there. I know the 3000mah 20c batteries are a little soft, but I am not going to be stressing them out with any sort of 3D, they are just for getting things setup and early test flights. Once I get it in the air and the bugs worked out, the small batteries will get kicked over to my airboat and I will get some 4000mah 35c 4s batteries dedicated to the 600. I figure 4 of them will do me, because I have the airplanes and MCPx to play with as well ;D

Well the 600 is almost ready for a FBL maiden, well it is actually ready to fly right now on the 6s setup, but I want to finish the conversion to 8s before I give it a go. I spent about 4 hours last night setting up the head and Ikon unit. I still need to do my pitch and throttle curves. The batteries should be in late this week to late next week, speed post is anything but All that will be left to finish it up will be the new motor and a nice day. In the meantime I am still farting around with the planes and the airboat refit. The final parts for the refit and a few more 3s batteries, for the planes and boat, are in the same package I am waiting of from HK. The 600 looks real good with the BW head perched on it, I am hoping for a sunny day in the near future to take a good shot of my RC fleet
