I agree with Drev. I had a look at that Novus heli it will still be blown around by any wind and it may be a bit to big to do anything indoors if your in a small place. I had a couple of flights on my MCP today indoors just practicing circuits and nose in stuff. I got my fix! I think you said you are getting the DX7 anyway. I have well over 70 flights on mine and all I have damaged is a set of blades. Not too say I have not crashed. The wall marks prove that! Well being that I don't really have the room indoors to fly anyhow I am not too worried about that. Add in that I don't have the $500 to drop on both the radio and MCPx, I am leaning towards the Novus. I can pick it and spares up cheap and locally it is giving it the edge. Also the cheaper price means I could get the DX7s or even a DX8 sooner

Well despite that it looked like I was going to ignore everyones suggestions I bought a RTF MCPx V2 about 5 minutes ago. It will take a couple hours to get home and a bit of time to charge the batteries, but I may be able to give it a try today as long as the winds stay more less calm. Here's hoping I catch on to flying it quickly

Hahah good choice you will love it. If there is no wind out you will be amazed at how quick that little thing can go! Use the blades with the little weights on them the others are more for 3d.

I am going to give the first couple of attempts with the 3D blades because it should be harder to fly, and for how little it will cost to fix this little heli I may try some loops and stuff with it. The 600 will never go inverted on purpose in my control

It can add up to as much as you paid for the damn heli itself.

Good call George, If you can fly it with the Dx4/RTF Tx, it'll be tons better when you can dial it in with your DX7s/8 when you get it. Have fun, Drev.

So I tried to get the MCPx up in the air in a controlled hover, I didn't do so well I think it just may be a little breezy here right now. I will say, holly cow that thing is touchy Taking off is no problem, but when I am trying to correct, I am over correcting and away it goes, even on low D/R. So instead of a nice little controlled hover I end up doing a circuit of the yard:P I had one major lawn dart moment when I accident hit the throttle hold button. Bad news is I broke one of the balls off the swash plate and lost the corresponding link, good news is I found the link. I am going to order the aluminum swash plate for it when I pick up the DX7s in a couple of weeks, and I just may have to put the weighted blades on it, in hopes that it will slow down the response a bit till I get the new Tx and I can dial in a bit of expo

The 2 best upgrades I found is the metal swash and metal head.

Just keep practicing with the MCPx & it'll get easier. Take your time & go slow then pretty soon you can just "LET YOUR FINGERS DO THE WALKIN".

Once you get the DX7s you will be able to add Expo and the bird will be so much easier for you to control

There is no one way bearing on the main shaft so when you hit the throttle hold the blade pretty much stops so bear this in mind. Man you don't have much luck seeing as you broke the swash already. The links from the swash to the head are a common part to pop of in an event. Some put a piece of string between the two links incase one goes off it will stay on the string. Them things are hard to find! As mentioned be carefull with the upgrades. The end prise can cost as much as a 450! I would just get a metal swash seeing as you broke that one and see how it goes.

I went through the whole upgrade thing with my bicycles, if I hadn't been a bike mechanic and got the pro deals I wouldn't have gone as far as I did with them. When I got it the salesman at the shop said that the only upgrade he did on his was the swash and I decided to take the wait and see approach. The MCPx is still flyable, there are 4 attachment points on the swash for the links and it was only one ball that came off. I know I was lucky to find the link that came off, it was sitting in some crushed gravel and blended right in. I had wrote it off as soon as I saw it was missing, but decided to give a quick look down in the area ;D I like the string/thread idea, I will have to try that, I also put the bullet blades on last night for when I try again, today its windy as all get out

Ack!! I just went browsing all the upgrades for the MCPx, there are a lot of them And on the surface they look like an inexpensive little venture, till you start adding up all those $25-$30 parts. A guy could spend enough upgrading this little bird to buy a new 800 heli Well I think I will leave the MCPx talk out of this thread and start a new one in the proper place, I did manage to get close to what I would call a controlled hover with it, the wind was making it hard to keep in that imaginary 2' box that I consider controlled hovering. My hover was about a 4' box in sustained 20km winds with gust over 25km. I am thinking if I can get a few calm days in a row, I may be willing to try some forward flight and a flip or two

With any luck I will have my new radio gear mid to late next week, but I have been thinking of powering it off its own battery pack now. What would be the best way of doing this, just running the appropriated sized lipo back through my BEC PRO or will I need to get some other type of regulator to get the right voltage to me Rx and servos? Also what would be the right size Rx pack?

Do you mean a seperate RX battery? Around 2000 MAh would be fine. I am just after putting a Lipo into my DX7. The batteries was fairly knackered. I fully charged it and all the heli's and went to the field and got 2 flights then the TX was dead! I highly recomend it. It stays fully charged for a long time now. Just remember to higher your low battery alarm to about 10v.
