Flew my Nexstar mini today for the first time. Amazed at how quit it is in flight. Used to my nitro planes and my electric heli's making some noise. Smooth maiden flight - First real plane that I have flown in many years.
It spans 44 inches all balsa/ply construction (arf) called for a 1300 mah battery and me being the cheapy that I am I thought I would try using my 2200 mah batteries that I use for my 450's. I was fully expecting to have a very noise heavy plane so I pushed the battery back as far as I could....... The plane was actually tail heavy. Moved the battery as far forward as I could and it was perfect.
Take off roll was non eventful - was flying at the local baseball fields.... This plane is not a park flyer! I fly the heli's there with out issue. The plane I was well outside the confines of the field passing over the parking lot and having to make sure I was not about to clip the lighting poles. Made a few circuits to feel her out (even though a trainer it is always prudent) and then made a few low slow passes to see how she likes to settle. On my last planned pass I went ahead and set her down as she was settling so nicely.
Have since set up flaperons and increased the aileron deflection. Have joined the AMA and once I get that back will join the local club.
I will still fly the heli's there as long as the baseball players are not out but the plane will go to the club

don't check CG outside in the wind - last time I flew her with the battery nearly 2x larger than called for I had to scoot the battery as far forward as I could. I wasn't overly happy with the way it was flying - very sensitive to pitch and roll. Brought it home and did some tweaking and I decided to change the prop as well. As I was about to go back out I decided to check the CG again and found I needed to put an additional 2 oz of lead in the nose to get it level and I am thinking I may add a bit more

Sweet! Nice to hear of a maiden (or any flight) going well.
