So I have my 600 flying pretty smoothly but still too nervous to do much more than hover with it. I recently acquired a Chaos 450 that I am waiting on some materials to come in so I can finish it and I have been flying the hell out of my erazor 450 in front of my house and getting better every day.
Had it at a nearby park on Sunday and some how managed to bring it down from about 30 - 40 feet up after the belt for the tail rotor broke with out incident. I was shocked - came home and replaced the belt and flew it again the next day.
Came home today and thought I would get a quick pack or two in before the rain or the dark came.
Was doing great flying some tight circuits and then bringing it back into a hover in a smooth controlled fashion. Then with 1 minute left on the time I was doing figure eights and bringing it in towards me almost straight on and it happened.
Lost my orientation and I was coming faster than I cared to and I lost it. Literally bounced off my wife's windshield shattering one of the blades and cracking the other hit the ground in front of her car and I must of not pulled the stick all the way back as it went launching it self into a cart wheel into my garage and bounced off the wall and ended up next to my other car.
My wife came running outside as she heard all the commotion and thought there was a car accident in front of the house.
Damage report
Bent flybar, feather shaft, most likely the main shaft. Every tooth on the main gear gone, All three cyclic servos trashed. One of the canopy pins broken off and the canopy itself got pretty beat up and scratched. Of skids got bent as well.
Lucked up in that it just hit the windshield and aside from leaving some blade paint on the windshield and debris from the blades as that shattered on her car, it came away unscathed.
Looks like parts cost will be around $50 - kinda weighting the pros and cons of rebuilding her since I got the Chaos 450 coming online but she will be no where near as cheap to rebuild...... and I have had fun flying her. Just not sure how much more she has in her.
Oh well - guess I will put off the small electric plane for a while longer.
