So I am trying to decide which of these two ESCs to buy next week. Both are in stock at the Ottawa Great Hobbies, prices are close enough for me to consider either one $124 for the 100, $169 for the HV. Of course I would have to add in another $25 to get the Castle Link to program it, but I need one anyhow to program my BEC PRO Is the extra $45 dollars worth it for the HV? and is 80 amps enough for my 600? Current setup is: Align MX600 1220kv motor Hyperion Atlas DS20x-SMD cyclic servos Hyperion Atlas DS20x-GCD rudder servo Castle Creations BEC PRO Zippy Flightmax 25C 5000mah 6s batteries Tx is going to be a DX7s for the next setup with a AR8000 Rx Hobby King cheapy CF blades

what type of flying are you looking to do?

Right now I would have to say my flying style involves getting an inch or two off the ground flipping to the side and crashing I am pretty sure that I am going to be heading the scale fly way in the long run for this helicopter. Once I finally get proficient at flying it I would like to get the UH-N1 fuselage for it, but I would have to convert it to TT to use the fuselage I want. If I decide that I want to give 3D a try I will pick up a little mini cp heli and learn 3d on that then maybe more to another large heli after that.

If your planning on going the scale way you can get away with the ice 100 and going to 8s to get better cooling and longer flight times. the 6s on a 600 is kinda doggy already and draws alot of amperage. the 100 on 8s would be my pick

Are there problems running the CC Phoenix ICE 100a ESC on 6s? I'm wondering b/c I just ordered one for my 600e,1000kv Phoenixtech motor, 6s, 5000ma 30C batteries.

Thats what I am thinking as I already have 2 6s batteries, and if I really needed 8s I wasted money

When I flew with the Phoenixtech 100a ESC, it worked great. Just hovering around & some FF, but no stunts or 3D stuff. I was getting 7min. flights in St1 with a 90% flat throttle curve, no gov.(don't fully understand governors yet). The batteries, motor & ESC temps were real good, just slightly warm to the touch. I'm guessing the CC ESC should work the same if not better. Drev

The reason for going to 8s is efficiency and cooling and longer life. Im not saying 6s inst good, Im just trying to help your bird run cooler and last longer. If you add voltage ur amps drop. if your amps drop there is less pull through your entire setup. meaning easier on batteries, your esc will come down cooler and so will the motor. 6s will work fine. but if you stick it in a fuse make sure there is plenty of cooling for all the electronics.

There will be plenty of time in before getting a fuselage, next spring at the earliest, I figure I have a lot more of the crashing style of flying to go through before before I am ready to risk a $400-$600 fuselage ;D

Well I went with the ICE 100A and it came in today. Now I just need some suggestions on what settings I need and to find out how many poles the Align BL600MX 1220Kv motor I am using has. The things I know I need to do are to set it to no brake, Auto LiPo and soft start. I am guessing very soft start, the lowest setting, would be the way to go here. There are a bunch of other settings on this controller too like current limiting, throttle type, governor mode, electronic timing advance and a few others. If you want to make suggestions but are unfamiliar with the Phoenix ICE 100A ESC the PDF manual is located here www.castlecreations.com/support/documents/Phoenix_User_Guide.pdf. It will be a day or two before I am ready to program it and the BEC PRO, I have a bit of rebuilding to do and rerouting of the wires, along with some soldering before I am ready. Thanks for any help and suggestions George

I do have the Castle Linktoo but I never got the jumper for the BEC PRO. Good thing I kept the wires from the fried ESC so I will be able to make a jumper ;D

OK so I was feeling antsy and went ahead with a little programing and did a screen capture of the settings. Mattox, there was no 120a current limiting setting that I could see, just 125 and the default 150. That is why I left it at the default, but with the Castle Link thing are simple enough to change. I may have to get the Castle Quick Connect, because digging that ESC out of the Rx is a pain As I said before, there is a couple weeks before I am ready to spin this thing up again so feel free to make suggestions about the ESC settings. My current fly goals are to get it into the air and have a stable hover. Once I get that and do a bit of orienting and get use to how the controls react, I might do some forward flight. In the long run I am leaning towards scale flying with a UH-1B fuselage, but that $500 that I will wait to spend till I have more confidence in my flying

OK I will change that tomorrow, and I am using a CC BEC PRO set to 6V. I didn't see an option to turn off the built in BEC, but I did pull the middle wire out of the connector as they tell you to in the instructions.
