I have a couple of neglected 450 clones that have been sitting gathering dust since getting into 500 & 600 sized helis.
I just resurrected one of them and flew it briefly yesterday. One of the cyclic servos died and the heli rolled over into an unplanned landing. (One of the reasons I wanted to get a 450 back in the air as it isn't as upsetting to crash a 450 as the other bigger birds)
Back to the can of worms. I'm running cheapo EXI D213F servos right now. They actually work pretty well for the price point $8 a piece. But, I'm thinking of upgrading the servos seeing as I don't have any D213F spares right now.
I don't want to invest an arm and a leg in my 450 so don't want to go top of the line with servos. What would you guys suggest? Hitec, Savox, EXI, etc.
Just looking for a possibly more durable alternative to the EXIs. I have been happy with my 500s Hitec servos and the 600 is running Hyperions. Maybe just stick with the disposable EXIs.
What do you guys think?

I think it would be worth the money in the long run to buy better servos. Think of it this way how many cheaper servos will fail and the cost of repairing the helicopter from the resulting crashes will it take to make up the price of the better servos. Not that the better servos will prevent you from crashing, but it will take one factor out of the mix. I know a lot of people are using hitec hs65mg or even hs65hb for cyclic. Mattox what Hyperion servo are you talking about, just curious might try them

Thanks guys for your inputs! I ended up finding another D213F EXI servo in my decommissioned parts boxes. Cleaned it up and checked it out. Seemed OK. Re-setup everything on the 450 and got a couple of flights in yesterday. She seems to be flying well enough for me to practice my high risk maneuvers.
My idea is to use the 450 as a guinea pig for the maneuvers that I try for the first time after practicing on the SIM. Right now I'm able to hold a inverted hover for between a split second and a couple of seconds, in real life. The SIM proves to be easier, maybe because the lower panic level because of the low repairs required!
You really notice how twitchy the 450 is versus the 500 & 600. Guess if I can keep the 450 in the air the larger birds won't be quite as much of a challenge.
Thanks again, Crashmaster
