Greetings,
After a few weeks of RL delays (and an F550 build), I'm finally at the point where I'm ready to install servo horns and links. Do I need to hook up a pack, bind my receiver, get the servos moving in the right directions, and find the center points before mounting the servo horns per the Finless Bob TRex build videos, or do I eyeball the center points and worry about the rest later?
Also, even though I've leveled swashplates before, I've never done a build. Is there an easy way to get the link arms started into the links? Told you it was a newbish question. Are they threaded, or you just need to be persistant and drive them in?
Shameless in Atlanta.

Hey man don't beat yourself up! That's what we are here for. Okay, here is what I do. Everyone has their own little secrets and different things they do. Do I need to hook up a pack, bind my receiver, get the servos moving in the right directions, and find the center points before mounting the servo horns? YES, GET ALL YOUR GEAR INSTALLED, SET-UP A NEW MODEL, AND BIND. Watch the finless videos you can't go Wrong! I still watch them! Do I eyeball the center points and worry about the rest later? EYEBALL YOUR HORNS AT 90 THE BEST YOU CAN AND USE SUB TRIM TO COMPLETELY LEVEL. Is there an easy way to get the link arms started into the links? NOPE, LINKS SUCK!!! PUSH HARD AND MAKE SURE THEY GO ON STRAIGHT. WORST PART OF A BUILD!!! Are they threaded, or you just need to be persistant and drive them in? NOT THREADED BE PERSISTANT AND USE EQUAL AND HARD PRESSURE TO GET THEM THREADED ON Hope thinks helps and remember No Question is EVER a Dumb question here!!!!! We are all here to Help and Learn Chris

Hey thanks a bunch Chris. Lots of good info in your reply. I really appreciate it.
Good hearing about you and your dad flying on RCHN 30. It reminded me of my dad and I renting planes on Sunday afternoon and going flying together back in the 90's.

hammerhead, I agree with you totally...ball links suck....I have a ball link tool as well....just a simple plastic one, it is two piece, one for each end of the link. They are great time and finger savers.
You may think you dont need specialist tools when you build your first heli, but the disease bites and next thing you have a dozen helis.
I try to buy some sort of tool each time I place a parts order (a little too regularly), wether I need it at that particular time or not. You will need it sooner or later and it's better to have it when you want it rather than having to wait and buy it in.
