So I am about a month into my build (not alot of spare time) and I am starting to install the electronics. Here is what is going into it;
12s 3300mah 35c batts Scorpion 4025-650 CC HV80 ESC WB super BEC Align 610's on cyclic, 650 on the tail Spartan quark gyro AR7000 Rx
This will be my first governed heli. I want the head speed to run between 2200 & 2300rpm. I am using the stock 170t main gear for now (have been told I will need to upgrade to the KDE mod 1 164t at some point?)
I am a lite to mild 3D pilot at this point. What pinion should I use to keep all the components happy? Thanks

If your only doing mild 3d and not looking for the most kik (BAD WORD) setup get a 15t pinion. that will target you around 2250 hs. Kde does not make a mod1 164t main gear. its a 0.7mod. just to clarify.lol Looks like a really good setup! you should be happy

I am a lite to mild 3D pilot at this point. What pinion should I use to keep all the components happy? Thanks Load Castle Link on your computer and enter "demo" mode. From there you can select the 80HV and enable the governor mode then play with different pinion sizes and head speeds combos till you get exactly what you want. For example, with a 15t pinion, Castle Link says it will take 91.6% of full power to maintain 2100 headspeed with no load on the blades. For 2250, you will need 98.2% of full power with no load on the blades and that doesn't leave enough reserves to maintain that speed during hard maneuvers. A 16t pinion will take 85.9% power to maintain 2100 and 92.0% for 2250. Looking at Castle Link, the 16t looks a little better if you are looking for 2200-2300 in governed mode.

no its not needed. if you set ur gear mesh correctly you will be fine. I run 2500 headspeed at 16* of pitch on the stock gears beating the crap out of it. only time i strip mine is when i crash.
The stock gears will be fine for anyones type of flying if your set the mesh properly..

I'll bet 2500 and 16 degrees gives you some real "pop".

lol. trust me in know how to throw some power out of my machines. the graph show a 6s setup.. 4025-1100 scorpion with a 19t pinion and stock gearing.. I pulled more power then some ppl do with 12s machines..
