Chris -
The v-bar doesn't have to be connected to your computer. If you have an Android smart phone, $7 vbar app, and a $10 bluetooth module, you can do everything from your phone. Cool thing about using the phone is that you can leave the bluetooth module on the heli while you test your settings. All you have to do is set the helicopter down, pull out your phone, make an adjustment then spin it back up and test the new settings. You don't have to touch the heli while you do this - leave it powered up.
I'm all vbar as they fly great with just running the Express setup, then as you get better you can upgrade to the Pro software and make many more refinements.
The iKON is my second favorite - the stability mode would have saved several of my crashes had I had an iKON. Plus, the iKON flies very close to the vbar and is possibly why the mini-vbar price was reduced to a similiar price point.

I voted for vbar seeing as my chaos 600 has a full size vbar with pro software and my t-rex 500 also has a mini vbar with pro software! I also voted for the skookum 540 but i have not had a chance to try it out yet so i will not be passing any judgement on it! I really like my vbars and find the ease of tuning them with my laptop to really be very simple an effective. They just fly awesome once tweaked! I have tried a few other fbl system as well that being the brain on my good friend Mike's t-rex 600 nitro. Mike had alot of sleepless nights trying to get the brain to work right with a nitro heli, the vibes definitely made the bailout dam near impossible to get setup to work flawlessly. I mentioned to Mike to try some ZEAL tape and strap the brain unit down as tight as possible, his typical responce was something i cant really type here!! LOL But a couple weeks passed and he asked me to go out for a few flights with him. To make a long story short he actually listened o my advice and had mounted the brain with the ZEAL tape! The results? The brain now bails out perfectly flat and works extremely well and as good as Mikes 500$$$ HC3SX unit! Ive tried aligns 3gx and did not like the feel of it at all and found it to be extremely unstable on landings and takeoffs and had a very bad tendency to tip the machine over. Beastx what can i say? Its cost effective easy to program and flys very good! Not as tweak-able as the vbar and although it flys extremely well i still prefer the vbar over it! Cheers Keith
