paint is heavy...... tape is even more so and you would be putting it as far back as you could. So unless you need some weight in the tail I would refrain from tape I am using water based paints and an airbrush to add color, so the weight gain isn't measurable on a 12" X 12" piece of foam board once the water in the paint has dried. Yes I did a test on a piece of 12X12 foam board The only problem with the water based paint is that if I get my mixture wrong, or I go too heavy, it lifts the paper off the foam board LOL.... .and what if it rains when you're flying?

Well I don't fly in the rain to start and the packing tape adds a bit of protection for damp conditions ;D Chris asked for some pictures so here they are. The string between the wheels is to keep the LG from spreading too much. Like I said, I think that they are a bit too flimsy for the aplication even though the HK specs said they are OK for the weight of the plane. Once I get out to the store that i buy my steel from I will buy the appropriated piece of aluminum and make new LG for it. Till then what is there will do. I am still waiting on that 12X6 prop to show up at the local hobby shop, the one in the pictures is too small and just there for show. It might of been quicker to order from HK again . I do need to make another order from them soon for a couple of heli setup tools so I will probably order a few other things like props and such to fill in the order. The cowl will be held on by small wood screws into the firewall, and I still need to cut an exhaust vent into the fuse and to let any heat out and cut a couple of small holes in the cowl to let fresh cool air in. The fire wall is well ventilated as it the ESC mount so air can flow in over the motor, ESC and battery. Right now it is looking like I am going to have to add a bit of lead to the front to get the CG right, but I am waiting on that bigger prop to find out how much weight I would need. If its a lot I will just get a bigger battery and add flight time to the setup instead of dead weight. PS that is an 8 gallon compressor sitting beside the plane. I bought it to replace my worn out 2 gallon one, but the motor wont start once the tank has more than 30 PSI in it My guess is a bad start-up capacitor so it is going back today so I can get another. If I have the same problem with the next one they can give me back my money and I will just buy my brothers big stand up compressor. Its too big for my needs, and not portable, but it works.

Well I got tired of waiting for my 12x6 prop so I decided to do a couple of test taxis with the 9x7.5 slow flyer prop I had here. The test went well enough that I decided to try get the tail wheel off the ground. It came up easy enough that I thought why not try get in the air. That is where I should have stopped. I ran out of road at full throttle with the tail up. End result was a nose over and just a broken prop that I had no use for at the moment, a little dirt on the cowl too . Back to waiting for the proper prop, if its not in by Friday, its time to make another HK order so I can get this thing in the air

Very nice G! BTW, .. From my observation looks like you have a cat. There are actually 5 cats here, that is the main reason I can't fly the MCPx indoors

Woo Hoo, my 12X6 props finally came in ;D, unfortunately I have a few things I need to do around the house before I can install one and give it a try, so I may not get to test my scratch build till Saturday With the 12X6, according to MotoCalc 8 I should have enough thrust to hover and do torque rolls , that is if it actually flies I think the only thing that may make it unflyable would be the wing, and it is easy to make a new wing, two pieces of foam core and and evening of cutting folding and gluing. I should, at the bare minimum, get a taxi test in the driveway today, and I will record that

I got the taxi tests with the 12X6 done, and recorded it. Not much to see, but it seems to have a lot of power. I even tried to get it into the air yesterday evening, but that didn't work out too well, the LG broke as I was heading out the door. I figured that it was going to break when I got it, but not from a light bump on the door The fields are too wet for belly landing right now so that was out of the question. Spent most of last night hunting through my scrap bins looking for something to make new LG out of and finally found a few pieces of aluminum that would work so I bent up some new, more durable, gear. So now it is finally ready to maiden and it looks like we have a week's + worth of spring rain and or high winds in the forecast. I am saving the taxi vid till I actually have some flight video to go with it I am an early riser so if the weatherman is wrong and I catch a break in the weather in the next few days I will be trying to get this thing in the air.

If it doesn't fly, I have all the electronics to put into a store bought kit and I am only out a bit of time and maybe $6 worth of foam core. If nothing else it kept me busy for a bit over the winter Right now the weather is perfect for a maiden flight, but I am stuck at the house waiting for the cable guy to come and fix our internet. It has been spotty at best and drops out for no reason. Resetting the modem and router doesn't fix it when it drops out and I end up having to call the service provider and have them reset it from there. My speculation is that the modem itself is dying and needs to be replaced. I am posting from my phone right now because it is the only internet access I have today, good thing that I have 2 gigs of data with my plan

nice and bright - tip, make the underneath of the wings different from teh top and i recommend make the left underneath and right underneath of the wings differ enough to be visual cues.

The rain held off and I got to go out and try get it in the air, but she just wont fly for me No big loss though, all the electronics are good as are all the other parts I bought for it. Well other than the original flimsy carbon fibre landing gear that snapped on me a couple of days ago. It took a few tries but then I realized that I had the elevator reversed You think that would have dawned on me as I was taxiing, but it didn't and when I would try take off I would nose in It really pulled to the left when I was trying to take off and all the rudder in the world wasn't going to stop it so I went for a hand launch. that is when I realized that something was off and it wasn't just the torque of the motor causing the problem. It flew for a little bit then rolled to the right. When I corrected that it went into a steep climb while drifting towards a tree so I gave it full throttle to clear the tree and it looped over and headed back to earth With that I just killed the throttle and let it come in and hoped that the electronics survived. They did, but the nose got crushed, so I am scrapping this and going shopping for a kit to build and stuff the electronics into. It was fun and I will try build another from scratch in the future, its just that it is getting nice here now and I want to fly asap, maybe next winter I will try a scratch build again. I did get it all on video you just have to wait till I do a bit of editing to trim out the excess walking around and waiting footage. I will keep the attempt at a rolling take off that I realized the elevator problem and the final hand launch to crash. I should get it done and posted this evening.

Just adding the video Looks like on Monday I will be ordering the Great Planes ElectiCub II, unless I find something else that catches my eye and is cheaper to build between now and then For some reason the video isn't coming up so I just did it as a hyperlink
