Unfortunately these foam planes are not very nerf like They can however be repaired. I was temped by an EDF but I went with the P-47 instead. It is laid up right now with a busted motor mount and bent prop. I am just letting it sit for a bit while I do my foam board scratch build Piper J3 Cub. I started laminating the balsa/fiberglass/foam spar tonight. It will take a few days to get it all laid up and the epoxy soaked into the balsa. Once I have the main parts of it done I am going to wrap it in some light synthetic silk and epoxy that to it too. I am using West Systems epoxy slow cure so each bit take 24 hours to cure. The WS epoxy is a marine epoxy and what I use for my knife making. I bonds well, doesn't get brittle when cured, and weather resistant. Should be good for a RC plane.

The nerf thing was a bit tongue in cheek , but any dents and scrapes pop out well with the boiling water method and all the parts are available as spares, wings, fuselages etc, so they are quite modular like helis these days. That was one of the reasons I got into helis as a crash doesn't mean a bin job, they are easily repairable. Good luck with your Cub...I had a balsa one ( around 50 inches) as my last plank many years ago...a great looking and flying aeroplane, either as a model or the full size.

Any thoughts on a non BNF model like the P-47 or T-28. I like both but dont have the Spektrum TX or really need to buy another TX at this point. I have the Aurora 9 or an old FutabaT6xa which does'nt do anything right now. I have a micro RX for the Futaba so Just need a kit without electronics. Somehow looking at the RX boards I might be out of luck.

The P-47 and the T-28 come as a pnp, but After my experience with the P-47 I wouldn't recommend it as a first plane My first short flight was OK, but the last two resulted in crashes. It is a good plane for someone with a bit of experience though. Dr Evil has the T-28 and could speak of the pluses and minuses of it.

Yeah, I think the T28 is a bit more forgiving due to its landing gears. It's a trike vs. a tail dragger which makes take offs and landings a bit easier. If you must have a warbird as a first plane than the T28 is probably the better choice over some of the others. Just my 2 cents as planes are still so new to me.

Installed the flaps on my P-47 tonight. Don't know how well they work and wont till I get a new motor mount next week. Even then I might just let her sit till I get some time on the trainer I am making. The action of the flaps sure looks good, I set the speed to 1.2s
