After waiting to get a BW head I gave up for now and ordered the Parkzone P-47 BNF. It should be in my hands before the end of next week. I didn't order from an online site, I ordered from my local Great Hobbies. I figure with all the soft powder snow we got over the holidays I should be fairly safe flying in the golf course. Might need to pick up some snowshoes to be able to chase down bad landings though

YES!!! Another plank tosser! Welcome aboard & have fun with the fixed wings. I just had a back surgery & am waiting to feel a little better before I go plowing through the snow. When I'm up to it I plan to take the snow shovel & plow open a runway on a lake near my house. It gives me a very LARGE place to play & some of the Senior folks who live on the lake like the show. Again, have lots of fun with the plane & welcome to the plank tosser club. ;D ;D

Just a little hint; if it's really soft, loose powder a light running set down works with pontoons too!

I think I will enjoy finding the big plane, 42" wing span, in the snow more than I have enjoyed looking for my MCPx, 9.25" rotor disc, in the snow That little thing disappears in the snow I live along the St Lawrence River and its no where near freezing over and there are no lakes near me to use. The golf course should be pretty good, its fairly level and next to no trees to get tangled up in. We did get a lot of snow in the last couple of weeks though. We got a couple of wet heavy inches of snow just before Christmas, and on the 26th we got dumped on. Close to 30 inches in 2 days. that's more snow than we got all last year, and its snowing again I don't think I want to be trying to fly the 600 out there because it would just sink into the snow and catch the rotor and tail if I missed my landing pad.

Sometimes you just can't get a break! If we get some wet, heavy snow & then it gets cold outside & the snow crusts over my foamies make some funny looking " slide into home base landings". They don't get hurt & it's funny to watch!

Mmmm so it take 450 heli batteries. If only I did not spend nearly 600 us on goodies this month and planning on spending another 500 + next month! Yes it is a money pit hobby.

Welcome to the plank club. I fear the P-47 may be too much plane for you if you have 0 plank experience. Something like the T-28 would be better suited for someone going to planks from whirly birds.

Welcome to the plank club. I fear the P-47 may be too much plane for you if you have 0 plank experience. Something like the T-28 would be better suited for someone going to planks from whirly birds. The main reason I went with the P-47 over the T-28 is that it would be in the store next week and there was no T-28 BNF available for them to order from thier supplier, meaning that it would be an indefinite wait for one. Next to that the P47 is up-gradable with retracts and flaps for not much more money when I am ready. I think retracts are $85 and $30 for the two flap servos. For the PNP T-28 I would need to buy a Rx and a pair of batteries, pushing the price up over $300. With the BNF P-47 with a second battery its just over $280, leaving me money for repairs. I also did a lot of reading up on the P-47, while not as easy to fly as the T-28, it is reportedly one of the more stable warbirds out there. While I have no actual flying time on a 4ch plane, I did fly control line planes as a kid and probably have over 2000 hours of flying time on my sim in the last year. Yes that seems like a lot of time, but keep in mind I don't hold down a regular job and don't have a wife and kids to keep happy either so I have tons of time to just fart around on the sim. I would say I average 3-4 hours a day split between helis and warbirds. Will I crash? I am sure I will, but it will be into powder snow at first to limit the damage, and repairs in the P-47 will be a lot cheaper than the 600, under $100 for a complete replacement air frame from Great Hobbies. I do wish that the P-47 was 4s and not 3s so I could just use the same batteries for the 600 in 8s configuration and the P-47, but that is only a bigger ESC away I will wait till I have some flying time under my thumbs before committing to that upgrade
