I bought a used Chaos 450 Airwolf and am in the process of going through it and making sure it was assembled properly.
One thing I noticed was that the gain wire was unhooked from the gear channel to make room for the landing gear wires.
I guess I'm a bit confused as to how to set up the GT9 gyro with my TX for this type of configuration.
If there's
My stuff:

I 've seen where there's been a limited space on the RX for the gain wire to connect and it's spliced in with another wire. Is the gain wire not connected at all?

Correct. the gain wire is just floating in air and the landing gear is attached to the gear channel on the rx.
Perhaps the gain on the gyro was just set high internally? Can the data/bind pin be used as a gain channel?

Not sure how the DX8 is configured as far as the RX is concerned but I know for the A9, you can make any of the channels to what you want them to be.

I dont think the GT9 will work without the gain wire. Don't plug anything into the bind port! The gain only works in the gear channel because it is for gyro control. As for a futaba you can set it up in rate mode because there are pods you can set on top. I would invest on a RX with more aux settings. That's what I did on my Airwolf.
I have an AR9000 with Sat 4sale $80 Shipped

Hmm, I'll have to decide whether or not to sink any more money into this heli...

There is gyro's you can use that do not need a remote gain. Have a look here for a start.. www.mycoolrc.com/gyro/gyroLINKS.htmlA lot of these type of gyros might not have HH and they might not be as good as the high end gyros but it will give you something to look into. Update......have a look at the Futabab Gy240........."Best gyro I've found that does not require a Remote gain wire. Rate or HH mode is switchable on the Gyro. 95% of the circuit including sensor and controller chip is the same as the Futaba GY401. "

Ok....did a little research for ya, hopefully this will help but only if you're running an external BEC. As I 've mentioned before, I saw where you can splice in the gain wire to something else into the RX. Well that "something else" is the BEC wire going into the RX. Because the BEC wire only has 2 leads (+/-), you'll have an open slot where you now can piggy back the gain to. To better explain this, go and watch Finless Bob's video on HF title "BEC 101". Watch the whole video if you like cause its full of info. but to get right to the point of what I am trying to explain...move the counter to 7:50. Good luck

On a Spektrum 6 channel rx, every signal pin is assigned to a vital function.
What about using a second rx? I have plenty of 6ch park flyers

Ah, NM, the channel mapping on the receivers is fixed and can't be re-assigned.

Ah, NM, the channel mapping on the receivers is fixed and can't be re-assigned. Thats sucks... sounds like your options are: 1. Rx w/ more channels 2. Different gyro w/o gain as mentioned by others Good luck, sorry couldn't been more help.

Hahaha Hey send me a PM offer for the RX. I bought it off of Kyle Dahl for $90 but am willing to work on the price to help our a fellow lounge member!! I'll even throw in a Chaos work towel
