When I bought my Chaos 600 kit, RCA gave me a free GT-9 Gyro. Since I already have a couple Futaba GY520's I hadn't planned on using it. Well this past weekend, after reading all the good reviews online, I decided to give it a whirl on my 450 sport. I used the stock settings at first and mounted it with the supplied two pads and metal plate per the instructions.
On first lift off it held solid, stick movements confirmed the direction settings were not reversed. Suddenly, while still in a low hover, the tail broke loose and the heli started spinning wildly. I got her on the ground, no damage - the 1st light was rapidly flashing blue. I unplugged the battery, plugged it back on and the light was solid again. Took off, found the piro rate was way to fast for my liking, landed and adjusted the yaw rate in the gyro to the from the stock 900 to 350 degree/sec. Took off again - tail responded very well, a little slow piro rate. Held good on collective punches. Did a back flip and tail blew out about 90 degrees. Came in to land, while hovering a foot or two prior to touchdown - the tail VERY rapidly blew out 90 degrees and stopped for a second, blew out another 90 degrees VERY rapidly and the stopped, then did it a third time and I was able to get her on the ground - again undamaged thankfully! It was weird! VERY FAST instant 90 degrees with immediate stop - three times in a row. I'm afraid to try it again - do I have a bad gyro or some setting outta wack? Tail servo is Futaba 9257 and the gyro gains in my Futaba 10CHP are set at 60% as was with the GY520.
Thanks,
Rob
