In the process of swapping my FB 600 to a FBL setup using the BlackWidow FBL head and gyro. So far the head has been installed and working on programing the BW gyro next. Once it's all done, it'll be going into my Airwolf fuselage which I have been posting my progress here under "RCA scale fuse's" section of the forum. There has been conflict stories on the linkages needing to be lenghtened to accomplish the proper 0 pitch at mid stick. I 've yet to reach that point but I'm close to getting it set up so I'll post my findings here once it is completed. Also, on another note...most of you guys already know this but thought would be good info. to post again for others who may be thinking of doing this. If you're going to go FBL by using the BW head, you'll need to swap out the linkage balls on the swash to a 700 size. Your 600 currently uses a 600 size ball on the swash which will not work with the BW head. You must swap out the 600 size linkage balls to a 700 size.Since you will only need 2 linkage balls for the BW setup, I've decided to remove the other two 600 size balls. Here is what the BW FBL head looks like on top of a Chaos 600!

Andrew, I am not done installing my BW head yet but did some measurements. I think you will need to move the bolt on the top of the mainshaft to the hole in the middle of the BW head. Will watch this thread to see how you make out. Good Luck!

OK! As I've posted in other parts of this forum giving my update progress on the Airwolf. I am one step closer this evening to stuff my 600 into the fuse. Started the BW setup last night...took a break and finished it this evening. Of cause, it didn't take 2 days....I think the total time it took from programming to my test hover probably added it up around to an hour give or take but keep in mind that this is my first FBL setup ever. That being said, it really wasn't all that bad. All I have to say is to anyone thinking of going FBL, it is fairly simple to do and the end result is well worth it. I have to admit at the beginning I was a bit intimidated but after going over the written manual and watching a video...it was fairly easy. Let me put it this way, if you can program and set up a radio to your model then setting up the BW FBL system is easy. Most of the programming is really basic stuff you go through on a regular setup anyway.
Ok...so moving onto the mech. side of things. I have heard a mix of locations on where to place the head bolt for the BW FBL head. Some people is saying to use the middle hole and some say on the top hole. Well after trying both, it worked out best at the top hole for me w/o any other linkages adjustments. With my 600 (FB) setup perfectly following the manual available to download from RCA, all the linkages was set just the way it was mentioned. I basically removed the FB head.....replaced the 600 size linkage balls with 700 size ones on the swash....popped the BW head on (using the top hole)....connected the ball links to the 700 size balls on the swash and that was it....DONE! Like I said, the setup/programming went really well. I am getting a +/- 12 degrees and actually I believe I can get close to 15 or more going either way. There were plenty of room left on the shaft.

Andrew,I will have to take a look again. but I am certain that my geometry lined up with the bolt in the middle hole. I currently have the old black widow head on currently. Maybe that is the difference, going from flybar to fbl for the first time works the way you found. Replacing a current flybarless head works out on the middle hole. I guess the morale of the story is which ever gets 0 degree pitch and servos at center with the least fuss is the better hole to use. Hmmm almost sounds X rated , lol. I will know for certain as I need to install the new version BW head I won on this forum. On my list of fall projects.

Hey bro, don't sweat over it....there are ppl using the middle hole and setting it up just fine. Just as you say, if it sets up well and you're getting +/- 12 degrees of travel and zero at center stick then....which ever hole you use is all good. I don't think there is an older version of the BW head, I believe this is the same head that is on the Chaos 550 which of cause works on the 600 as well since they both share the same diameter main shaft. I will try and do a short video of the setup so that ppl can see what is involed mechanically when changing your 600 FB to a FBL heli.
