Any idea what steel the shafts are made from? When I temper my blades after heat treating them I just do it in the oven, yes it works only thing is different steels require different temper temps and cycles. 1084 is pretty easy to heat treat and temper, heat the steel to 1500°F and soak for 10 minutes, quench in 140°F oil then temper for 3 cycles at 400° for 1 hour each cycle, cooling to room temp in between cycles. The hard part of heat treating the shaft is already done for you, not many people have the ability to get to the high temps and hold it, but most steels can be tempered in you home oven to drop a few points of hardness.

I just bought one of these yesterday and have only had time to get a couple flights in. So far I love it.
Has anyone installed the optional 10t pinion and if so, does it make much of a difference in performance?

According to at least one person the 10t pinion makes a lot of difference but it's apparently only supposed to be used in conjunction with the optional CF main blades.

OK, I'm noticing a lot of slop between the main gear and the mainshaft, for instance if I hold the main gear stationary, the main blades can move back and forth about 1-1/2" which could account for some uneven torque on the mainshaft as the blades are loaded and unloaded.
Anyone else have a similar amount of play between gear & mainshaft?

I have that same play. I'm going to keep beating on her until I need to replace or upgrade. I see no effect in the flight characteristics. I'd like to keep this little beater as stock as possible. My only upgrade is the CF blades.

Great video Chris! thinking of getting a mcpx but just seen as video on the nano. What do you think would be a better collective trainer for a first time flyer (cp)? Just getting back into everything, been too long with no money! should also be able to grab that quark if you still have? thanks

The nano has a higher power to weight ratio.
The stock MCPX has terrible tail authority compared to the nano.

Crashed it pretty good yesterday and found out two things:
1. The main gear is the same as the blade 450 2. The thrust bearings have only a light film of lubricant on them.
OK, three things. It takes a crash rather well.

Do you need to use washers for those blades to fit in the grips?
