I have the DX7. Its a good radio and I have had no issues. My next radio more than likey will be the Aurora 9. I am just saying this to throw a spanner in the works for you lol! All you can do is get all the facts and feedback you can then make your decision.

I've had my DX8 since last May & couldn't ask for a better Tx. It's got everything I'll ever need & options I'll probably never use (but one never knows what the future will bring). Drev.

The prices on Amazon for the Aurora 9 are hard to pass up with the Aurora 9 Transmitter with an Optima 9rx, and 4 servos for the same price as the DX8 combo with transmitter, AR8000rx, and TM1000.
I still think I'm going to pop on a DX8 at my LHS tomorrow. My son wants to buy my DX6i, so I'm going to turn over that money, and add to it to get a DX8. I'm getting to the point in this build that I need a receiver to plug my electronics into and start the CCPM setup and radio programming. I love this heli!

I'm a proud owner of a new Spektrum DX8. javascript:add("%20;D") It's a very nice radio. I put EC5 female connectors on both my batteries, and the males on the ESC. All electronics are in the 600E. I'm waiting on a CC USB Programming Kit to come in the mail so I can program the CC 40amp BEC. That's the last piece of this puzzle before being able to power up the electronics and finishing up the CCPM setup on this big bird. Once I figure out how, I'll post some pictures of it in varying stages of assembly.

Check out Finless Bob's videos on HF about the DX8. It's not complete but will give some basic understanding on the programming. Once you get cruising around in the set up screens you'll catch on real quick. Drev.

That looks nice with the extras. I notice they changed to elevator servo location on the newer kits.

That elevator servo is quite tight with the collective bellcrank next to it. I needed to manage the cable on that servo to keep it out of the way of that bellcrank.
I have everything I need (except time) to start the CCPM setup and electronics programming. I'm going to put the batteries on the charger tonight and start this process. I'm not going to be in any hurry. I want to do it right the first time since any mistakes can result in lots of expensive damage.

I've downloaded every video Finless Bob has posted on HF, and watched them all a minimum of 2 times. I'll be watching the CCPM setup videos more now that I'll be programming the electronics.

why not swap sides for the elevator servo and have the case of the servo within the frame of the heli - gets it out of the way of the pitch bell crank and centers the ball on the linkage for the elevator

That's a great idea! I was just following the directions to a fault with this being my first big heli build. I noticed they had a servo mount for that very thing, but I wasn't quite sure how to do it. I'll make that change before I do the CCPM radio programming.
I also have a battery charging question. I have a very nice Hitec X4 AC Plus multi-charger. It came with 3 different types of adaptors to support LiPo charging of different Cell sizes. Two of these look to be the same except for the ID: XH adaptor, and the HP/PQ adaptor have the same male interfaces for the balance charger plugs. The manual doesn't say with which batteries these adaptors are compatible. I'm ultra careful of doing anything with these batteries until I know exactly what I'm doing. Can any of you help me figure this out? I'm thinking there may be some electronics underneath these adaptors that may cause different charging behaviors. I'm assuming these adaptors are different electronically since it was important enough to identify them differently. I have 2 Zippy 5000mah 45C 6S batteries to charge.

I am with ya on the lipos, I am also super careful as well maybe perhaps too careful which I guess is actually a good thing. Not sure what you're talking about as far as the adaptors goes, can you post few pics. on it?

Sounds like you are talking about the balance plug connections - I am using the zippy batteries as well (look for my post title be careful boys and girls) The zippy should be using a the jst-xh plug. The balance plug should also be plugged in while charging so your charger can "balance" the cells. When charged you want each cell to be reading the same charge levels. I would also personally recommend getting these covers for the balance plugs on your batteries - I had a habit of pulling on the wires when unplugging and that leads to a lot of stress on them. they can be found here and really cheap as well. epbuddy.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=26_13&products_id=228
