Nice video on soldering EC5s. You make soldering look easy.
Well my new 600 kit arrived today. I can't believe it! RCA, you're amazing. I was a bit disappointed to find the Orange and Black canopy was included in the box instead of the skull canopy which I specifically asked for. Robert, who filled my order last week @ RCA is sending me the skull canopy. He thought the skull canopy was already in the box. Again, RCA is living up to their great customer service. I'm going all through the box of parts like a kid in a candy store. I can't believe how BIG the canopy is. javascript:add("%20:o")
It looks like everything is there. My Align 610/650 servos also arrived today I purchased used from a guy on the Helifreak sale forum. They didn't come with horns, so I'll have to get a tail servo horn for the DS650. The kit came with 3 servo wheels for the cyclic servos. I'm quite excited to get started on this build. javascript:add("%20;D")
I'll keep you up to date as I make progress.

Maybe I should know this, but doing the inventory of parts in the kit, I have a packet: P600NZ3 containing 3 small bottles. One marked: SCREW, one marked: BEARING, and one marked: Grease. I get the Grease, but the Screw, and Bearing, I'm assuming these 2 bottles are intended to be SCREW: Threadlock(T43 even though it looks green in color not blue), BEARING: Bearing Cement(R48 metal tubular cement which is green). javascript:add("%20:-/")
I already have Tri-Flow synthetic grease, and Blue Threadlock. I just don't want to mistake these 2 bottles for lubricant when they are actually Thread lock of some kind. So, I probably won't use them unless I know for sure what they are.
I'm still waiting on a few parts to arrive. The KDE Chaos expansion kit and receiver tray upgrade, batteries:2 - 6S 45C Zippy, and RC-Tech bearing blocks, and RC Booya canopy mounts.

Sounds like you have a Great laid out game plan!
Yes one is to seat and glue in bearings in block and the other is thread lock.

Thanks. I'll be progressing slowly to make certain everything is perfect, at least, as perfect as I can do it with this being my first helicopter build. I'm not new to building RC aircraft. I scratch-built RC airplanes for 20 years before I had children. Funny how having children puts a screaching halt to expensive hobbies.

I finished the head assembly last night. The machining on the head parts is spot on. The blade holders pivot smooth as silk, and there is no end-to-end slop what-so-ever. So far, the quality and precision of the machined parts is superb.javascript:add("%20:D") A perfect kit for my first real build.

Progressing on my new 600E. Head assembly and Airframe are complete. Servos are installed and the linkages are all connected. I'm now working on installing the rest of the electronics. I'm looking at the Phoenixtech ESC, and I see the red and black battery wires coming into the ESC which is a no brainer. On the other side I see 3 Black wires for connecting to the motor labeled A, B, and C. I have no idea which of these 3 output leads to connect to which of the 3 motor leads. Can any of you that have a Phoenixtech 115Amp ESC help me out with this, please? My initial guess would be: A-Lead connects to the motor Red wire B-Lead connects to the motor Yellow wire C-Lead connects to the Motor Black wire.
I don't know if that's correct, but I'm assuming that this is important to ensure the motor turns the correct-counter clockwise direction since we're working with DC not AC, but then I could be wrong.
I also received my skull canopy Monday, my 2 Zippy 5000mah packs from Hobby King today. Wow they're bigjavascript:add("%20:o"). Still waiting on the canopy quick-connectors and my EC5 power connectors.
Your help will be greatly appreciated. I'll send pictures soon.

Connect up the motor and if it spins in the wrong direction just swap over any two wires. Why did you not order the EC5's from HK while you were at it.?
"I scratch-built RC airplanes for 20 years before I had children." I flew planes over 20 years ago as a kid. All we had was a plan and bare balsa! My last project was an SE5a and I was about 16. I have to laugh at people when they buy a model now that is build and think they are a model maker all of a sudden! Put up them pics up especially before you fly in case someone spots something out of place. It sounds like it is going to be a nice bird.

I did order the EC5s from Hobby King, but it was a later order. I should be getting them within a week.
Scratch building airplanes was the most satisfying for me. It was nice to get a kit now and then to get the nice plastic cowling and wheel pants that are harder to fabricate. I guess this is why I enjoy this hobby so much. There was no way I was going to buy one already assembled. I like the technical aspects of this hobby also.
The KDE frame upgrades really dress up the frame. I like seeing all the bling in the middle. I stayed with the main bearing blocks that came with the kit. I kept my rc-tec bearing upgrades I bought for later.
What is your opinion of Spektrum radios. I have a DX6i I'm selling to my son. I really like it, but I've only used it with my simulator. I've never used it actually flying a real heli. I'm looking at a DX8. However, the Hitec Aurora 9 radio intrigues me. It looks like it's put together well with very good instructions on how to work with all the menus. Spektrum can do a much better job with their documentation. I can't see where Hitec has upgraded it to DSMX from DSM2. It looks like you have to buy an add-on Spectra module to get the DSMX frequency hopping features. Does anyone know more about this radio? I'm seeing some good prices out on Amazon right now, but I'm thinking it's because they are all DSM2 radios and not DSMX.

Go with the DX7s or DX8!!! They are DSMX technology and the roller ball and menus are so extremely user friendly. I've talked a few guys through set-up from the forum over the phone as I had the same menus and could navigate with them! You will not be let down by Spektrum, Very ergonomic as well I flew Futaba for over 15+ yrs... I am a true Spektrum fanboy now.

Thanx for that feedback! My gut is keeping me from going away from Spektrum. I kept looking at other radios that looked very interesting, but something deep inside kept me from going any further than just looking. I'm hoping to get a DX8 this weekend. I like the idea of the Telemetry module on the bigger airframes to keep watch of things.

I personally use the Aurora 9 and love it but like Chris said you can't go wrong with spectrum. I think it's like Coke vs. Pepsi. Finless Bob got a good set of video on the Aurora 9 if you want to look further into it. Either one I think you can't go wrong. Good luck with your decision.

I also use the A9 - I have been very happy with it - over the years I have used Futaba, Airtronics and JR radios (planes) and I have a Spectrum car radio that I am not overly fond of as it tends to brown out from time to time in the worst possible moments
