Ok guys... I have been flying Futaba since 1986. After getting my first Spektrum DX6i last summer, and then getting a DX5e for the sim, then I bought my DX7s... I fell in love. I'm helping out a fellow lounge member "mackbrad" modernize his TX and selling him my beloved DX7s so I decided to pick up a new DX8 after work yesterday. The Spektrum radios are so User friendly to set-up and use. Here is a fun unboxing video I did. Enjoy Attachments:

Chris
Make sure you check your gimbals and use the screen in the dx8 menu to see if your rudder or aileron move as you move your left and right stick. I think they say more the 5 on the rudder and aileron either way. Mine had to be sent back took a week to fix but they sent me a new rx for the trouble. I'm not saying yours will have problems mine was part of the recall

With the DX8 there was an issue with the gimbal and with the timer on vibrate causing some brown outs. NOT all of them had this problem. You can check yours by going to the monitor screen and put your thumb beside the throttle stick not touching the throttle stick move your throttle up and down and watch the rudder on the monitor if it moves left or right more than 5% then you can send it into horizon to fix for free. You do the same test on the elevator without touching the right stick and watch the aileron. You have to choose a blank model to do this test. You can goto spectrum and register your radio and see recalls specific to your radio. I am not bashing the radio as I own one and when I purchased mine i was told it had been updated and it was not. Just saying you may not have problems but better safe than sorry. On the website it shows what models numbers were affected and how to check. They replaced my gimbals and the timer for free and sent me a free rx for the trouble.

Thanks Mike, I ran the tests via your instructions and everything is fine. I also went to Spektrum community where i have my tx registered and found nothing there. I was on HF earlier and read a post which talked about this problem. being new to the hobby and this expensive tx i am thankful for the info. Wanna make sure i keep up with whats going on. Thank you!

No problem bigeasy, I flew futaba from late nineties to when I stopped flying. When I picked the hobby back up I went with spectrum knowing they had DX8 problems. The reason is for the programming this is the easiest radio to program easier than futaba and JR. Now that JR and spectrum are/have parted ways I think spectrum is going places since they have a well known scale pilot testing their higher channel radios.
Nice video chris wish I could find time to mess around with making some maybe in a few months I can give it a try. Mike

+++ 1 on the user friendly Spektrum radios Chris. When I went 2.4 I picked up a Spektrum 9503. I really think it is even more friendly to you than my JR 7202 is. I love those Spektrum radios. My personal opinion of course.
