My Dad has never flown anything other then his MCX and MsrX... Well after a few months on the Real Flight 6 Sim and flying the Blade MCX I got my father to transition in to a Fixed Pitch FBL MsrX (the one I reviewed) a few weeks ago. He is doing great and told me he was ready for a 450 when I spook to him this week. Well he met me up at the school parking lot tonight to watch me rock my Chaos 450’s and watch me maiden my Chaos 500. After my Great flights I watched him zip around the parking lot with his MsrX. Watching the excitement in his eyes as he flew his little bug around the parking lot. I decided to throw some training gear on my beloved 450 (my first 450 I built in my review) and handed my father my DX7s. No trainer cord, no buddy box, just my DX7s and some encouraging words. I stepped a few feet back and watched him spool up the motor. With 20% expo on cyclic and a flat 75% throttle curve she gently lifted right off the ground. He ended up flying almost two complete battery packs worth of tail in hover flawlessly. I even stepped in to show how the 450 can go from a tamed down lion to a all out 3D Beast with a flip of a switch. I am very proud of my father but think I have lost my twin 450…… lol But it’s ok. I have my new 500 to play with and a 600 on the way this week. My father is well on his way to forward flight with the Chaos 450 and with my guidance he will be doing forward circuits in no time. Congrats! Proud of you Dad and thanks to RCA for making quality affordable R/C helicopters!

He did even better today with forward oval circuits around the parking lot. There were a few times I held my breath but the bird is still Mint. Gotta love training gear, plus I have the pitch curves set to low negative so if he does have to bail he wont bury it into the ground.

I am having so much fun. I almost bagged the hobby out of frustration with numerous under responsive/powered helis...such as lacking enough forward motion to get out of its own way. The Chaos 450 has me excited, not to mention I have a great coach...my boy! As mentioned above, I first taught him everything I knew about RC plane flying and it didn't take long before Chris surpassed me. I am really looking forward to a fun summer of flying and success stories. I just hope we can figure out why the DX6i and DX7s don't want to play together in a trainer cord scenario.

Hey I still learn everyday to buddy. Its not like a plane with throttle, rudder, and elevator. Computer radios, tons of settings, different brands.... It can be quite overwhelming. That's why it is great we have a site like this so that we can all bounce stuff off and help each other. I am the first one who will ask for help if there is something I don't know and need help on.
