Now that it's nice out I am getting my McpX outside. Pretty much every time I fly now I am breaking landing gear. I am getting into a lot of FF flight and sometimes I lose control and it goes smashing into the ground. Now and then I break a link but most of the time I lose the landing gear. I have gone through 5 sets in the last week so I need to find a better option. What is everyone else using?

Try flying over grass? The only thing I ever broke was links and multiple booms! I always hit throttle hold and bailed. Ive never heard of breaking the skids? Maybe attach a light piece of foam padding on the bottom to help impact. It shouldn't throw off the weight to bad. Just a suggestion. I've seen carbon fiber as well.

Im still on my first set after well over 50 flights! I did break the legs ages ago but I did a DIY fix. The legs broke in the middle so I just cut up 4 smalls lengths of fuel tube about 5 mm or so long and slid the legs into it with a bit of CA to hold. Now they flex great on heavy landings and I have not bought any legs so they must be good!

well wtf...how is it I keep breaking them? Nobody but me breaks skids? It is always when it hits concrete because i just go out front of my house and fly. Maybe I should stick to flying over grass ;D

Next time they break try the fuel tube.......or small shrink tubing. They are pretty bullet proof over long grass alright.

You can check on HF, their making skids from plastic bottles like a large aspirin bottle or something. Supposed to be indestructable. I never tried it myself but it's a free alternative. Fly safe... Drev.

KBDD is starting to make the skids out of the tough plastics they use for the main blades... Woo hoo

nice! It seems this is a widely known problem based on research around the web. I am seeing a lot of people making skids out of bottles and such. However, I am noticing that the more I get used to flying outdoors I am not breaking them as much. Only time I have lately is when th bird passes the sun and I lose orientation and smash into a tree or something.
