Just wanted to let thank everyone that help with my motor/pinion gear question. I wanted to check back in and let eveyone know I got it working and did the first flight on Sunday 7/24/2011.
I had a local person helping me learn and he helped me do all the setup and radio programming which took longer than I thought it might. Right now I only have two batteries so didn't get to fly long we were worried about rain and lightning.
I'm just learning to fly this is my very first helicopter so I was really nervous my mentor did the first flight and was very impressed with how well it flew he was able to get things dialed in better. I did two short flights and was happy with the first one the second one I came down a little too fast and struck the tail on the ground and stripped the torque tube gears at the back of the frame and I broke one of the landing struts but didn't break anything else. I can't wait to get it fixed and back in the air hopefully for a little longer and with a safer landing. Sorry no pictures or videos.

Congrats on the maiden. Sounds like you really didn't hurt it too bad. What are you using for electronics? I have the combo kit and I'm just about to maiden mine. I, too, am just learning and think the 600 will be a good size to improve my skilz.

I bought the super combo kit that came with all the electronics. It worked well I'm controlling it with a Spektrum DX8 controller.
I just have to get used to small stick movements. My problem was the helicopter was starting to get higher than I wanted, when I went to decrease the elevation I moved the stick to fast and to far down and it came down. The damage is a lot better than it could have been I didn't break any of the tail or tail blades so it was pretty cheap repair.
Good luck with you maiden just take your time setting up the copter.

Sounds like you have the identical setup that I have - DX8 and stock combo electronics. I should fly it tomorrow and will let you know how it goes . . . and maybe post some pics.

ksufalcon,
Congrats on your maiden!! They say there is no cure for the heli bug and it sounds to me like you have been bit!! lol ...Glad you had a good experience (other than the lil mishap) and also glad you have some people around you with some experience..
Speaking in terms of the stick movements, Do you have any exponential in the ail/elev controls? I found that it helps with those annoying thumb jitters we all have... If not talk with your mentor and ask him to explain expo and start you out around 30-35 % and see if you can notice a difference...

Hey man...yeah, congrats on the maiden and looking forward to hear about yours Chumley. Get some pics. or video if you can. Ksufalcon, your little mishap doesn't sound too bad...I guess it could of been worst is how I always look at it. Well good luck on putting it all back together, hopefully you'll have it back in the air in no time. To add what Jeff said on the expo, it would certainly help for sure...it'll basically soften up your inputs if you will.

Yeah I definately have the heli bug after just seeing the helicopter I built actually fly. Then when I got to fly it it sank in deeper.
My mentor did put in expos on the sticks I just really moved the sticks way to much when I had my mishap I knew right when I did it but it was to late at the point. Live and learn.
Dr. Evil I looked at the mishap the same way it could have been a lot worse and lot more expensive hopefully I'll have the pieces this week and have it in the air next weekend. I have to much going on this weekend.
