Looking for some tips/help/insight here.
I tried to do nose-in hover and yeah, it got away from me several times and I had some inappropriate landings (crashes). Now the head won't turn, feels like something is binding. I'm guessing the main shaft got bent possibly? Also noticed there are teeth missing from one of the gears now......
She's out of commission for several months now, until after our child is born. Already made an agreement with the wife I wouldn't buy anything r/c related until after his birth...............................
It's frustrating with the whole nose-in thing because I can do it all day long on the simulator, all day long with the mSR, and all day long on the coaxials, so I know I have the skills needed. Guess it boils down to not being as familiar/used to the 450 as I should be.
Is there anything besides a bent shaft that would prevent the head from turning? Maybe a problem with the belt and tail?

rcdude, +1 to what texasclouds said...I am thinking its the main shaft as well but you probably won't know or see till you pull it out. Also, you will need to replace the gear (assuming your talking about the main gear?). Pull the shaft out and roll it on a glass table or something similiar. I am just curious when you say it won't turn, do you mean it kind of turns but its binding or do you mean it won't turn cause it's like locked into place??? If you want since you're fairly close to me, we can perhaps meet and I can take a look....let me know and I can pm you my #.

It's like it's locked in place now. A few times it felt like it was binding, but now it's locked in place. I can bring it to RDRC's indoor Fly-In Wednesday the 25th if you're going to be there. I plan on being there.

If it won't rotate either way I would suspect main shaft bent and/or main bearings locked.

Started looking at it this evening. Took the blades and the tail off. As soon as the tail was off, things spun freely. Tried tugging on the belt and turning the tail rotors, no luck. Took the tail assembly off and pulled the belt out. The belt had become locked on itself, aka the teeth on the belt had become interwoven, interconnected, like pieces to a puzzle. Glad that is a simple fix. Still need a main gear since there is at least one if not two teeth missing from the gear.
Question, since the belt did this, does that mean I didn't have enough tension?

My question is how did the belt become interconnected. Anways I would inspect the belt for weak spots based upon what you have stated. If its still good the pull it flat against the side of the tube, use a flash light to make sure there are no twists. Put it into its mount and give half twist the proper direction to put it on its pully. Tighten the belt to where there is about 1.5-2mm play, you will feel the tension against the tip of your driver. When locked down your belt should feel pretty tight. I also tend to spay mine with some silicone lubricant to keep it from drying out. Hope that helps.

Thanks. Not sure I had gotten it tight after replacing the tail boom several months back. I'll triple check the tension this time once I put it all back together.

Finally got around to putting the tail back on the bird last night. Made sure the tension on the belt was snug, just a little bit of movement when the belt is pushed in on itself.
How critical is it to replace the main gear that has 2 teeth stripped in the fashion of tooth, stripped, tooth, stripped, rest of the teeth?
Obviously it's something I want to replace, but just need to get a feel for the priority of buying a new main gear. Then making sure the wife understands why I need to spend the money.

Its important, explain it to your wife if you don't it may cause another crash with additional repair cost.
