Hi guys,
Trying to finish off a Chaos 600E build Having issues with the gear mesh, auto gear to tail gear not smooth at all, clunky and notchy. turns over but not smooth, in spots. I am also questioning my setup. Ecalc says it wont work. Here's my set up
Scorpion HK4025 1100kv motor 120A ESC 6c 5000 lipo 35-50c stock gearing pinion is still to be determined. thinking 13-14 tooth, any suggestions?
This is the 8th heli I have built, not a total noob! Starting to get pretty frustrated with this thing, never had any issues with my other builds.
Any thoughts would be appreciated, Honestly, getting ready to strip my electronics and sell off this airframe cheap, had about enough!
Thanks
Scott

Hey Scott,
Have the 1st generation Chaos 600e with the skull canopy. Run a 1000kv Phoenixtech motor, CC 100a ICE ESC, 170 main gear, 16 tooth pinion on a 6s 5000ma pack. I'm getting 7 1/2 min. flights with no 3D & everything is coming down cool. Batteries are still within the 80% discharge rule. I had a similar situation with the tail drive gears. Remove the tail drive gearbox & make sure everything spins free. Check for excessive horizontal run out on the tail drive gear. Inspect both gears for burred or bad teeth. I found the drive gear in the tail case had some bad teeth. Replaced it with an Align gear & problem solved. Also there is a new kit that allows adjustment to the tail drive gear mesh available from Align (check one of their parts web sites & you'll find it, don't know how to post a link. I'm not very computer savvy). Sorry for the long post but I hope it helps. Good luck & have fun.

Give RCA a call if you havn't already done so, I am sure they'll take care of whatever it is that you'll need to get it going right. Their customer support is really good so give em a call and let us know how it turns out. Just got mine in a couple days ago. I am having the same issue with tail gear drive train. I haven’t torn it down yet to investigate. Other issues I have encountered with my build: -Instruction still for fly bared version, lists bag numbers like an Align kit but none of the bags were actually marked, that would not be an issue for someone who has built at least 1 similar heli.
-bottom plate would not fit on the side frames because alignment tabs were too big, slight trimming and they slipped right in.
-When the tail push rod was connected to pitch slider it bowed the rod causing binding, replaced metal tail control guide with Align plastic guides and installed longer ball on slider to eliminate bow and now smooth as glass. Not an issue, (I don’t think) but my local hobby shop said that the metal slider tubes on the push rod should be CAed to the rod, with the metal rod holders this is not possible because when clamped tight it locks down the metal tube but does clamp the tail boom (Align plastic version it is just the opposite).
-Canopy clip would not engage front skid cross member and the canopy would not reach the canopy mounts. Not sure how to make clip engage. For the canopy, probably just need to trim the canopy to be able to slide aft about 1/4 inch (have seen a few pics on the subject).
-When I removed the screws for the motor mount to get the special washers 3 of the 4 were rusted (not an issue, upgraded to the KDE mount).
-Carbon tail blades and 3rd bearing block weren’t in the kit (as advertised on product webpage), sent them a message yesterday late, (haven’t gotten a response, but not worried, they have been quick to respond in the past). Will add response to that later.
-Not a kit issue but I am using Futaba S3071HV servos, typically don’t install the grommets. On these servos the wires come out facing forward for the elevator servo and that put the wires all but touching the aileron lever. Installed the grommets on that servo, that put the wires right against the frame. Also drilled 2 holes to secure the wires under the lever as well. The quality of the kit looks pretty good. The test will really be the bearing quality. Once I get the mechanics right with RCA’s 5 bladed head and scale blades, I will be slipping it into their Blue Jive MD 500.
